the red cougar, the last thriving species of Frontier’s apex predators. These things are the wild species of the Singing engineers, for those who remember E.E, it is one of the cougar species that were assimilated into the Singing cog (turned into a labor unit species)

red cougars, like other wild ones aren’t sentient. they’re big angry motherfuckers that can grow up to 60-70 feet in length and consume chalkurites, along with humans and other tasties. They’re tough as nails, but luckily are so territorial that only big ones occupy vast areas, namely around the great canyons where they ambush their prey. They’re considered sacred by the thornbacks, and are protected by laws because of their key presence to the balance of fauna and chalkum deposits regulation, plus being among the very few creatures capable of dealing with chalkurites

They’re inspired by the carnivorous caterpillars, and move/attack much like that

‘nuff said, Pint has a spat with one of the big ones and he goes into a lethargy coma after surviving said encounter with only half his mangled body remaining.
