Description

Messing around with beetlehawks, temporal (ofcourse) ref for Rundas, showing off how this boy goes from hideous dog-sized furball to adult-size monster on puberty

He loses the gray down as he ages and gets bigger. Not sure if to give him carapace parts, these guys have been such a pain to update

And I kind of forgot this guy also rears up on his hind legs, so pretend he's a hella lot taller

Run gets 1/2 bigger later on and twice as broad and buff. By the time i draw him like that I'll hopefully have a definite design for etao beetlehawks (and beetlehawks in general (which is impossible))

and posting here something I commented to someone asking -those black things on his hands look like they would get in the way-

INC RANT

he protusions are his daggerclaws, a sort of switch-blade natural weapon beetlehawks have for a middle finger (talk about upgrading the -flipped the finger- expression) . Daggerclaws on normal BHs are a little smaller than the palm so they can be safely tucked in so it won't bother the BH when it's doing delicate work, however for etao beetlehawks (like rundas here) their selective-breeding genetics don't have a stop-watch on the claw's growth and it will pierce through the 'hand hollow' with age.

For that, mutilation is performed on the young etao, where they will cut off half the hand so the claw can continue growth without the clumsy hollow to get in the way. BHs have normal and outer thumbs and two digits for each hand (4fingerstotal), so for top arms they mutilate the section with the outer thumbs and lower arms the ones with inner thumbs. This allows the etao to be able to handle things like it normally would, except with the combined effort of both arms (which also encourages that they forsake quad-mode)
The nub-knuckles of their daggerclaws become extremely calloused to compensate for the mutilated paw-pad digit to walk around on
But because of this alteration, etao are very useless performing some of the menial tasks, and almost impossible for them to handle more complex jobs.
It isn't normal, and you can notice how heavily scarred his wrists and forearms are from the claw's constant friction

Do they get in the way? Yes, a lot

But do they work? Definitely, and considering the worse-than-spartiate training they endure, they're pretty deadly. It's something of a trademark for the etao caste and the whole 'useless for anything but killing' coupled with a very high metabolism (unlike humans or other castes, can't go without food for more than a day or two without getting lethargic) ensures that etao remain loyal because of their dependence on others
